Aboriginal Invesment NT was established by the Aboriginal Land Rights (Northern Territory) Act 1976 (Land Rights Act), commencing operations on 15 November 2022.
Our operations are governed by the Land Rights Act and overseen by our independent Board. As a corporate Commonwealth entity, we are subject to the requirements of the Public Governance, Performance and Accountability Act 2013 (PGPA Act).
Aboriginal Investment NT is a portfolio agency within the Department of Prime Minister and Cabinet. The responsible Minister is the Hon. Malarndirri McCarthy MP, Minister for Indigenous Australians, whose duties in relation to Aboriginal Investment NT are set out in the Land Rights Act.
Aboriginal Investment NT is operationally independent from Government. However, any investment that has a value of more than $100 million requires written agreement of the Minister, per section 65BH of the Land Rights Act.
